Cairo and the Nile Valley by Season
Winter, from November to February, is peak season for good reason: mild days, cool evenings, and comfortable temperatures for full days of sightseeing. March, April, and October are shoulder months, still warm but generally manageable. June through August is genuinely hot, especially in Luxor and Aswan, where afternoon temperatures regularly exceed 40°C — visits are still possible, just best scheduled for early morning and late afternoon.
The Red Sea Coast, Nearly Year-Round
Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh run milder than the Nile Valley throughout the year, tempered by the sea. Winter days are pleasant but the water can feel cool for swimming without a wetsuit; the warmest, calmest conditions for diving and snorkelling generally fall between May and October.
Visa Basics
Many nationalities can obtain an Egyptian e-visa online before travel or a visa on arrival at major airports, though requirements vary by passport and change from time to time. Passports should generally be valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry. Because rules differ by nationality and do shift, it's worth checking the official Egyptian e-visa portal or your nearest Egyptian consulate close to your travel date rather than relying on older information.
