Sohag: Abydos & the Temple of Seti I

Abydos was ancient Egypt's holiest pilgrimage site, believed to be the burial place of Osiris himself. The Temple of Seti I, built around 1280 BCE, holds the famous Abydos King List carved in stone — a chronology of pharaohs used by historians to this day — alongside painted reliefs of remarkable detail and color, largely spared the damage seen at more heavily visited temples.
